As a parent of a sophomore at Paradise Valley High School and longtime school volunteer, I can tell you that the need to hold this all-night, alcohol and drug-free party is beneficial to our kids and the community as a whole. More than “just a party”, Grad Night is a once in a lifetime event that provides a safe place for graduates to celebrate one last time as a class, while giving families and the community peace of mind to know that they are safe on one of the most dangerous nights of their young lives. According to the Center for Disease Control, more than a third of all teen fatalities are from car accidents, and statistics show that teenage drivers are more likely to be involved in a car accident during April and May, when most proms and graduations take place and peer pressure is prevalent. As parents, we believe that if we can prevent just one serious injury or death to a graduate our efforts will have been worthwhile. As a member of our community, we hope you will support this important cause and take pride in knowing that you may have helped prevent a tragedy. Paradise Valley High School is home to approximately 1,600 students that excel in numerous honors and technical education programs. The diversity of programs at PVHS is what makes our school so special. Our Career Technical Education programs service students from across the district, and all of our students have access to many AP and honors classes. In addition, CREST (Center for Research, Engineering, Sustainability and Technology), a small, specialty STEM school, is located on the PVHS campus. This state-of-the-art school enrolls more than 200 students from all over metro Phoenix. PVHS is also proud to have on its faculty Ms. Marni Landry, the 2012 Arizona Science Teacher of the Year! The Paradise Valley Unified School District boundaries are as far reaching as Jomax and Pima Rds. to the north and Northern and 16th St. to the south. So you can be sure that your donation will touch many in the community. Please refer to the attached official PTO letter and donation form and thank you in advance for your support of our 2013 graduates! Warmly, Christy Miller PTO Grad Night Chair |
